~ What are the instruments in a string quartet?
A string quartet is comprised of two violins, viola, and cello, and is perhaps the most classic and elegant of the groups available. It is known for its warm, refined sound, and provides the most versatility in terms of available repertoire.
For those on a budget, there are two lovely alternatives: the string trio (violin, viola, and cello), and the flute trio (flute, violin, and cello), both of which have a lighter, more transparent sound. Violin and piano, or cello and piano, are also wonderful options if you have access to a piano.
For an especially grand event, you might want to consider highlighting the string quartet with a trumpet, singer, or harp. A trumpet can add a dramatic and celebratory touch, and will really capture your guests’ attention. A vocalist can sing those special songs that have personal meaning to you. And the addition of a harp really enhances the visual effect of the quartet and evokes a mood of romance and beauty.
~ Are you available for cocktail hours and receptions?
Yes, we are. We do many cocktail hours, during which we can play anything from classical music to tangos and Sinatra tunes. We also do full receptions for couples who prefer quieter dinners that allow for intimate conversation, and we can even play some songs for dancing if you’d like.
~ Can you help me with song selection?
Absolutely. Some couples know exactly what songs they want, but for those who are seeking some guidance, I personally work with each bride and groom to tailor their music to the particular mood they are looking for. So whether you want something traditional or unique, something joyous or meditative, I am committed to finding the perfect music for you!
~ What if I want a song that is not on your repertoire list?
The repertoire list on our website is just a sampling of our extensive repertoire. Please feel free to request any song that is not on the list. If we don’t have the music, we will do everything possible to find it. And if the music is unavailable, our violinist Max would be happy to arrange your favorite song for a reasonable fee.
~ Are you available for personal consultations?
I am happy to meet with anyone who wishes to meet me in person! Most of the time, however, couples find it more convenient to take care of paperwork and select music via email or phone.
~ Do you play outdoors?
We love to play at outdoor weddings. We do, however, have some requirements due to the delicate nature of our valuable instruments. They are susceptible to damage when exposed to rain, sleet or snow, direct sunlight, and temperatures above 90 degrees or below 60 degrees. Therefore, we must be completely shaded from the sun, and cannot play if there is precipitation of any kind.
However, in the case of inclement weather, please be assured that we will do everything in our power to play as long as we can ensure the safety of our instruments!
~ What if my wedding runs late?
If our services are required beyond the contracted time, we charge overtime on a prorated basis. Our quartet members, however, cannot guarantee their availability for overtime. Therefore, we strongly urge you to allow for unforeseen delays when booking our quartet.
~ How do I go about booking your quartet?
The process is simple. I’ll send you a contract, which you can return to me with a 50% deposit of the total fee. Upon receipt of the contract and deposit, your date is officially reserved. The remainder of the fee is due on the date of the wedding.
